Frequently asked questions

Privacy and Security

Data

  • You do. You keep ownership of the health records and information you add to Stowe. By uploading them, you give Stowe permission to store and process them only to provide our services to you.

  • In Canada. Your records and all backups are stored in Canadian data centres operated by Amazon Web Services (AWS). A small amount of processing happens outside Canada. Subscription billing is handled by Apple and Google. Authorized members of our team may also access our Canadian systems securely from outside Canada. Our Privacy Policy has the full details.

  • Your data is used to provide Stowe Health's services to you: storing, organizing, and displaying your records, sending reminders, and managing your account and subscription. We also use it to keep your account secure, provide support when you ask for it, and meet our legal obligations.

  • No. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.

  • We don't share your health information with advertisers, insurers, employers, or data brokers.

To run Stowe, we rely on a small number of service providers, such as AWS for secure hosting. They may use your information only to deliver our services, under contracts that require them to protect it. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

In the future, we plan to let you share records directly with people you choose, such as your care provider. That will only happen with your explicit permission. If how we share information ever changes, we'll tell you first and ask for your consent where required.

  • Yes. You can request a copy of your records at any time by emailing privacy@stowehealth.com from the email address on your account. We'll verify your identity and respond as quickly as we can, generally within 30 days.

  • To delete individual records: navigate to the My Stowe tab within the app, find the record, scroll to the bottom of the record's detail, and select Delete.

To delete your whole account: first, cancel your subscription through the App Store or Google Play, since deleting your account doesn't cancel billing automatically. Then navigate to the Profile tab within the app and select the delete button. You will be asked to confirm before the process is complete. Once you delete your account, your access is disabled.

When a record or an account is deleted, the affected records are removed from our active systems immediately and from our backup systems shortly thereafter. If you delete your account, we keep only limited information where the law requires it, such as billing and tax records.

Deletion of individual records and account deletion cannot be undone.

Privacy

  • Access is tightly limited. Only authorized team members and contractors who need access to operate and protect Stowe can reach the systems where your information is stored, and that access is logged. We look at your records only when necessary: to help with a support request you make, to investigate a security incident, or to comply with a valid legal requirement. Real user records are never used for routine development or testing.

  • Stowe maintains a privacy management program designed to support compliance with applicable Canadian privacy laws, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the private-sector privacy laws of Alberta and British Columbia.

Because health information is among the most sensitive information there is, we apply heightened protections to it.

  • We work closely with external Canadian legal counsel who specialize in privacy, health information, cybersecurity, and AI. They advise on how Stowe is designed and operated, and help us keep pace as laws change. We have a designated Privacy Officer accountable for our privacy program. We review service providers before we use them, assess privacy risks before launching new features or launching in new jurisdictions, and keep records of consent and access.

  • Only when the law requires it. We don't give government or law enforcement access to your information voluntarily. If we receive a request, we review it, and we disclose information only when a valid court order, warrant, or other legal requirement compels us to, limited to what is required. Where the law allows, we'll notify you before disclosing so you have a chance to respond.

Your records are stored in Canada. Some of the companies we use to run Stowe are headquartered outside Canada, and the laws of those countries may allow authorities there to request information from them. We protect your data with encryption in transit and at rest, and restrict access through tightly controlled permissions.

  • Contact our Privacy Officer, who is accountable for Stowe's privacy program and responds to questions, access requests, complaints, and concerns:

Attn: Privacy OfficerAryunisi Inc., carrying on business as Stowe Health125-720 King Street W, Suite 455, Toronto, ON M5V 3S5privacy@stowehealth.com

We'll investigate your concern and explain the outcome. If it isn't resolved to your satisfaction, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, where applicable, the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or British Columbia.

Security

  • We protect your information with several layers of safeguards, including:

    • Two-factor authentication required on every account
    • Encryption of your information in transit and while stored, including backups
    • Strict access controls: least-privilege permissions, time-limited elevated access, and audit logs
    • Hosting in Canadian data centres
    • Tested backup and recovery processes
    • An incident response plan, including notifying you and regulators where required

No system can be made completely secure, so you have a role too. Use a strong, unique password, keep your email and devices secure, and let us know right away if you notice anything unusual.

What Stowe does

  • Stowe Health is a secure mobile app that brings your health and wellness records together in one private place. Store, organize, and find your records easily, keep track of what's coming up, and feel more confident taking charge of your own health and wellness journey.

  • Stowe Health is for individuals who want an easier way to stay on top of their own health and wellness journey.

Whether you're managing a health condition or just trying to be proactive, you can keep all your information in one place, see your history over time, and feel more confident and in control.

Coming soon, Stowe will also let you manage the health information of others you care for.

  • The more complete the picture, the easier it is to see your health story clearly. Bring in information such as:

    • a report from your doctor
    • the results from the blood lab
    • a scan from the clinic
    • a photo of a prescription or pill bottle
    • stretching recommendations from your physio
    • a screenshot of your heart rate from your wearable device
    • a note on a symptom you felt this morning
    • a voice memo you recorded while driving home from an appointment

We encourage you to bring any and all kinds of health and wellness records into Stowe.

  • There are five ways to bring your records into Stowe:

    1. Upload a document from your device
    2. Take a photo with your device's camera
    3. Forward an email to secure@inbox.stowehealth.com from the email address on your Stowe account
    4. Type a note for something manual or informal
    5. Record a voice note to capture your thoughts on the go

You'll find all five options by tapping the (+) at the bottom centre of the app.

  • Once your records are in Stowe, they're in one secure place and easy to find. You can:

    • Sort and tag records by category
    • View your records on a timeline
    • Filter records by care provider, and keep your providers' contact details handy
    • Set reminders for appointments, refills, and other health milestones

When was your last physical? What was your cholesterol last year? The answer is at your fingertips!

Coming soon, Ask Stowe will let you ask questions about your own records, prepare for appointments, and become a stronger advocate for your own health.

  • No. Stowe Health is a support tool for organizing and understanding your health information. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always talk with your care provider about medical decisions. In an emergency, call 911.

  • Not yet. Stowe isn't currently connected to any doctor's office, hospital, or health record system, but this functionality is indeed on our product roadmap.

Even once we are, it won't be possible to connect with every clinic, dentist, and practitioner. It's a good habit to ask your care providers for a copy of your records or reports so you can add them to Stowe yourself.

Have ideas on how we can make this easier? Email us at hello@stowehealth.com. We'd love to hear from you.

Use of AI

  • Not yet. At launch, Stowe helps you store and organize your records without AI features.

Over the coming months, we'll introduce intelligence features such as plain-language summaries of your records and Ask Stowe. Before they launch, we'll update this page and our Privacy Policy to explain how they work and how your information is protected.

Families and Caretakers

  • At this time, you can only add your own information to your own account.

Family features are on our product roadmap, coming early 2027. You'll be able to manage records for children or minors in your care and for other adults who give you trusted access to their account.

  • Not yet. Stowe accounts are currently for people 18 and older, but the ability to add child profiles under a parent or guardian's account is coming soon.

  • At this time, the best way for an adult family member (18 or older) to use Stowe is to create their own account. We're working on family features that will let you add child profiles and share access between consenting adults.

Pricing and Accounts

  • Ultimately, every “free” app is paid for by someone.

Stowe Health is built by individuals, for individuals. Subscriptions keep us independent of advertisers, data brokers, and outside interests, so our only priority is the people who use Stowe.

  • We offer monthly and annual subscriptions. You'll see current pricing on the subscription screen in the app before you start your free trial or subscribe. iPhone users can also find it on our App Store page under In-App Purchases.

We work to keep our prices as low as possible while running a sustainable business.

  • Yes. New subscribers get a 7-day free trial. If you don't cancel before the trial ends, your subscription starts automatically. To avoid being charged, cancel at least 24 hours before your trial ends.

  • Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play store, using the payment method on your Apple or Google account. You can choose a monthly or annual plan, and your subscription renews automatically until you cancel.

  • Subscriptions are managed through your Apple or Google account. On iPhone, go to Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription. After you cancel, you keep access until the end of your current billing period.

  • Refunds for subscriptions purchased through the App Store or Google Play are handled by Apple or Google under their own refund policies. You can request a refund through Apple's refund page or Google Play's refund page.

  • Cancelling your subscription doesn't immediately delete your account or your records. If you don't request deletion, we permanently delete your account data two years after your subscription ends. We'll email you 30 days before that happens, so you can download a copy or reactivate your account. This lets you come back to Stowe later without losing your records, while making sure we don't hold your information indefinitely.

If you'd like your records deleted sooner, email privacy@stowehealth.com to request account deletion.

  • Your email address is the foundation of your Stowe account. It's how we confirm your identity, secure your sign-in, and verify requests about your records. Because of that, changing it isn't something you can do in the app.

If you need to change your email, for example because you've lost access to your current address, contact us at privacy@stowehealth.com. We'll need to verify your identity before making the change, which helps protect your records from anyone trying to take over your account.

When you create your account, use a secure, personal email address you plan to keep for the long term. We recommend avoiding work email addresses, which you may lose if you change jobs, and temporary or secondary accounts you don't check regularly.

Getting Started

Availability

  • Stowe Health is available to residents of every Canadian province and territory except Québec. We're preparing for our Québec launch, including a French-language version of the app, and plan to be there as soon as possible.

Canada is just the beginning. We plan to bring Stowe to more countries in the future. If you'd like to hear when Stowe arrives where you live, join our waitlist or email us at hello@stowehealth.com to tell us where to go next.

  • Stowe Health is currently available in English. A French-language version is in progress as part of our Québec launch, with other languages to follow.

  • At this time, you can access the Stowe Health app on Apple and Android mobile devices.

Getting set up

  • Download the Stowe Health app from the App Store or Google Play. In the app, you can create an account using Sign in with Google or with an email address and password.

Whichever you choose, use a personal email address you plan to keep for the long term, never a work email. Jobs change, but your health records should stay with you for life.

  • Health data is your most personal data. Two-factor authentication adds a second layer of protection to your account. Along with your password, you confirm it's you with a one-time code sent to your email. Even if someone learns your password, they can't access your records without that second step.

It takes a few extra seconds at sign-in, and it's one of the most effective ways to prevent unauthorized access. It's one of several safeguards built into Stowe from the moment you create your account.

  • At this time, you can upload the following file types:

    • Documents: PDF (.pdf), Word (.docx), and plain text (.txt)
    • Images: JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg) and PNG (.png)
    • Spreadsheets: CSV (.csv)

You can also forward emails with attachments in these formats to your Stowe account at secure@inbox.stowehealth.com. Be sure to forward them from the email address on your Stowe account.

If there's a file type you'd like to upload that we don't support yet, email us at tech@stowehealth.com.

  • There's no storage limit for normal personal use. Individual files are limited to 10 MB or 50 pages, and larger files may not upload. If you run into a limit, email us at tech@stowehealth.com and we'll help.

Using Stowe

  • Yes. Stowe is available to residents of Canada (outside Québec), and you can keep using the app while you travel, whether you're in Québec or outside Canada. Your records remain stored in Canada wherever you access them from.

A few tips before you go:

    • Download Stowe and set up your account before you leave. Stowe is available through the Canadian App Store and Google Play.
    • Make sure you can access your email while you're away, since you'll need it for two-factor authentication codes.
    • Add any records you might need on your trip, such as prescriptions or recent test results, so they're with you if you need care away from home.
  • Within the Stowe Health app, navigate to the Today tab, and select “Add reminder”.

Here you can give your reminder a title, select the reminder timing, whether or not it repeats, and link the reminder to a specific record. Once you save the reminder, it will appear on your Today tab to help you stay on top of what's outstanding.

  • At this time, the easiest way to get help is either to contact us by email at hello@stowehealth.com or, through the app's Profile tab, you can also send in feedback to our tech team.

About Stowe

  • Stowe Health was born out of a frustration most of us share: trying to keep track of our health while juggling everything else life asks of us.

We believe it's time for a better, easier way to manage your health and wellness journey.

  • Stowe Health is built by people who live the same problem you do. We've juggled scattered records, repeated our health history at appointment after appointment, and felt how hard the system can be to navigate. So, we're building the tool we wish we'd had (and that you're telling us you want too).

Stowe's founder, Lindsay Kruit, isn't a health industry insider. She has lived the problem Stowe solves over many years and knows how overwhelming and frustrating the system can feel. Her goal with Stowe Health is to make your life easier.

  • The name Stowe is a nod to the verb "to stow": to put something important away, neatly and securely, until you need it again.

The name also honours Dr. Emily Stowe, the first woman to practise medicine in Canada. Dr. Stowe dedicated her life to serving the people Canada's institutions had left behind, and she inspires what we do today.

  • Yes, Stowe Health is an independent, privately owned Canadian business.

  • You can get in touch with us anytime at hello@stowehealth.com.
